Halloween Safety: Trick or Treat Alternatives
Celebrating Halloween with alternative traditions is becoming more popular. Here are a few ideas your family can try this Halloween season instead of Trick-or-treating.
First, check your community’s calendar online or in the local newspaper. Often, the community is already organizing an activity. They may be looking for volunteers to help for free items and discounts.
If you don’t find anything on the community bulletin board, think about organizing something yourself. You can organize many different community Halloween activities from pumpkin carving to trunk or treats.
If you are unfamiliar with trunk or treats, they are a fun alternative for children. A group of friends park their cars in a neighborhood or parking lot, open up their trunks and allow children to go from trunk to trunk for candy. Many people decorate their trucks and fun is had by all.
Trunk or treats are becoming more popular with church communities. They allow children to enjoy Halloween in a safe environment. They also eliminate hours of walking from house to house.
Also, check local mall listings for their trick or treating events. Many stores will hand out candy to young children who are dressed for Halloween. Yet, another way to reserve time and energy while still enjoying Halloween.
Local radio and media outlets also sponsor Halloween events for children. Usually, they involve free candy and give away prizes.
